SINCE THE BEGINNING of Western Christian civilization, the positive goal of God's glory has infused every part of life.
The truly ultimate questions and perplexities of our world-death, suffering, human connections, and the significance of our lives-have been examined through the arts, which reach deep into the human heart and fly upward to face God and receive His answers. Whether painting, sculpture, theater, or literature, the arts have traditionally sought to understand God, the workings of His world, and our place in it.
History has provided a roadmap through the tangled confusion of past events. It has taught lessons, provided warnings, and stubbornly reminded us that only God's laws work and bring blessing to the human race. We have been witnesses to the lives of those men and women who chose not to obey God. The wreckage of their lives serves as a glaring reminder that God's laws cannot be broken-you only break yourself in the attempt.
Throughout the centuries, education has been a formidable factor in art, literature, political leadership, and spiritual growth. This is not to say that education alone is primary in importance. The relationship of the individual to God through Jesus Christ, of course, supersedes every other element of life. Biblically directed spiritual life is the dynamic core from which all other aspects radiate.
The leaders of the twenty-first century must be equipped and prepared to follow in the spiritual footsteps of our ancestors, those people who challenged and changed the world through their love, service, and obedience of God. Christian leadership should be an honor to God by its intellectual discipline and its spiritual depth and excitement. We should outreach, outwork, and outlove the rest of the world! We know that the mind can be a terrible instrument of selfish pursuit, manipulation, and savage cruelty, or it can be a means to godly study, beautification and enrichment of life, and ongoing blessing for other people. It can be the birthplace of new horizons and fresh ideas, full of excitement and endless possibilities.
It is our conviction that when the intellect, the emotions, the will, and the spirit are in the right balance with God, the whole person becomes an expression of excellence for the glory of God.
The Bible itself stresses the importance of the mind in spiritual growth:
"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (2 Tim. 2:15 New International Version) "All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2 Tim. 3:16-17 NIV)
Zane Education's educational program and this document offers you and your children two critical requirements for future influence: (1) solid grounding and factual education; and (2) a biblical Christian perspective and application of the program.
Zane has done an outstanding job in its Learning Video titles. Your children will go beyond the threshold of basic information; they will become educated - a precious commodity in today's society. They will learn the foundation for a rich, full, productive life; they will learn to reason, to think, to create.
The Christian application of the Zane material will keep your children grounded in biblical leadership and authority. It will guide them and mold them as they learn to seek God for themselves and enjoy their relationship with Jesus Christ.
At times, you will encounter secular interpretations of events in the Learning Videos. There is, for example, a clear, evolutionary bias in the material in the Biological Sciences series. Do not be alarmed! It is our conviction that students should know and understand positions outside of evangelical Christianity. We are confident that their faith will be stronger when they know both sides and understand why we believe the biblical view of the world is correct both intellectually and spiritually.
God bless you. You are beginning an adventure in learning, a journey into the hearts and minds of your children.
Together, assisted by this excellent program and humbly dependent on the blessing and help of God, you can build godly men and women who will lead us into the twenty-first century.
