Children’s Activity 64: Hat Trick

A Children’s Indoor Play Activity

No, this has nothing to do with hockey. The trick is to make your cards land inside the hat.

Materials Required:

  • Hat
  • Playing cards

Instructions:

No, this has nothing to do with hockey. The trick is to make your cards land inside the hat.

Just about any hat will do – a beat-up derby, a cowboy hat, even a baseball cap.

Set the chapeau on the floor in the middle of a large room and pass out equal amounts of playing cards to all contestants. (You can also use blank three-by-five cards – just make sure everyone gets the same amount.)

Now have the players take turns throwing cards. (It’s tougher than you might think – but remember, you can always adjust distances to match the skill and patience levels of the players.)

Anyone who gets a card in the hat gets to keep tossing.

The player with the most cards gets to start the next round.

In the unlikely event that one player manages to toss all his or her cards directly into the hat without missing even once, all other players get the chance to duplicate the feat.

And let’s face it – anyone who can get twenty in a row really does deserve a tip of the hat.
