Want to do some educational games with an element of chance for fun? Here’s how.
Carefully measure and cut off the lower portions of two half-gallon milk cartons (about 3%inches from the bottom).
Slit one of them at each corner, to within an inch of the bottom, and force it inside the other milk carton bottom.
This will give you a milk carton cube.
Wrap the cube in white paper, neatly and tightly, and tape.
Make a second cube the same way.
Next, mark the 6 faces ofthe cube with shapes, patterns, animals, pictures, letters, numbers, or words.
Mark the second die identically. You now have a pair of giant dice.
Invent your own games, like seeing who can roll a match. Or, if you’re working on numbers, count how many times it takes to actually get a green hat, a boat, a dog, and so on.
For an older child, you could each throw a die with numbers, then have the child add (or multiply) them.
Finally, if you’re using letters, the object of the game might be to think of a name with the two initials resulting from your throw.
