A Children’s Creative Activity
This activity works well with the previous Family Tree activity, although you can do it separately.
Materials Required:
- Paper and pencil
- Notebook
Optional Materials:
- Tape recorder
- Photographs
Instructions:
This activity works well with the previous Family Tree activity, although you can do it separately.
At the next family gathering, provide a list of questions for your child to ask the oldest members.
If they emigrated from another country, your child can begin with questions about life before and after the move:
Where did you grow up?
What did your parents do for a living?
What kind of house did you live in?
What did you do for fun?
What was school like?
How did you get here?
What was it like to live in a new country?
What was different? What kind of work did you do?
For other relatives, the child can focus on questions about the houses they grew up in, their cities or towns, their friends, their school days, current occupation, interesting travels, and so on.
Write down the answers so your child can focus on the interview.
Tape record the interviews, too, if possible.
You can attach pictures of the relatives to the write-ups, then place them in a notebook.
The book and tapes will become wonderful mementos for everyone in the family.
