An Arts and Crafts Activity
You can make a flannel activity board simply by stretching a flannel shirt or receiving blanket around a piece of cardboard, and holding it there withpaper clips.
Materials Required:
- Flannel shirt or receiving blanket
- Pieces of felt
Optional Materials:
- Sandpaper or Velcro
- Glue
Instructions:
You can make a flannel activity board simply by stretching a flannel shirt or receiving blanket around a piece of cardboard, and holding it there with paper clips. (A solid color piece of flannel is ,best, but that may require a trip to the fabric store.)
Now make items that your kids can attach to the board.
Shapes made out of felt work very well-the fuzzy fibers from the felt cling tightly to the flannel.
Another approach is to cut out pictures from magazines, laminate them with clear contact paper, and then glue felt, sandpaper, or Velcro to the backs.
The younger children will love tearing off the pieces and then sticking them to the board again.
If you have an extra piece of flannel, you can draw a tic-tee-toe board or some other game pattern on it for older children.
If you’ve donated a shirt for the occasion, don’t fret: it’s still a perfectly good piece of your wardrobe. Just don’t forget to remove the felt pieces -you might get some strange looks the next time you wear it to the supermarket.
