An Arts and Crafts Activity
With this activity, you can create a jungle scene complete with moving animals.
Materials Required:
- Stiff pieces of paper 2 feet by 1 foot
- Drawings or pictures of animals
Take a large piece of stiff paper and fold the ends forward so it can stand unsupported.
Decide on an “ecosystem” and have your child draw the plants, soil, and sky-all aspects except the animals.
Next, draw or tape pictures of animals on the same paper stock and cut them out.
Now cut out stiff paper tabs-about four inches long by one inch wide. Attach these to the back of the animal. Have your child decide where you want the animal to be in the ecosystem and cut a slit below.
If the animal is going to just move a little, cut a short slit; if you want the possibility of more movement, make the slit longer.
Place the stage at the end of a table so the tabs hang down below. Your child can then tell a story and move the animals as appropriate.
But don’t let your kid hog all the action-switch places so you can tell an animal tale, too.
