An Indoor Play Activity
This little game requires absolutely nothing in the way of props. You can do it while fixing dinner, when you’re getting your kids dressed, or at any other time when your hands are tied. (It’s also great on car trips).

Instructions:
This little game requires absolutely nothing in the way of props. You can do it while fixing dinner, when you’re getting your kids dressed, or at any other time when your hands are tied. (It’s also great on car trips).
Look around the room or out the window and pick out an object. Then say, “I see something red about the size of a …. “, describing its general qualities.
Gear the activity to your child’s abilities, shifting from overall “form” qualities like size and shape to more subtle aspects of function – such as what it does and who might use it. (“I see something that can hold water … “)
With younger kids, take turns being the describer and the guesser.
With older kids, invent more complicated rules as the game progresses. For example, if you can stump your fellow guessers and have to tell them the object, you get to continue being the describer. The person who guesses correctly, however, gets to do the describing.
Whatever your rules, keep the rewards simple and the focus on the game.
Don’t make the rules too complex. The beauty lies in the eyes of the describer!
