An Indoor Play Activity
This game is a TV-free version of the old television game show Concentration.
Materials Required:
- Magazine clippings
- Cardboard
- Glue
Instructions:
This game is a TV-free version of the old television game show Concentration. (Actually, the show itself was based on an old card game.)
First, rummage through your magazines, and select a variety of suitable magazine clippings and photographs, and cut them out.
Glue the photographs onto thin cardboard for strength, and allow them to dry.
Cut each picture card in half, then spread the picture halves on the floor or on the table.
Mix up the pictures, face down, and arrange them in the rough form of a square.
Each player is allowed to turn over two pieces of cardboard. If the cards match, the player gets to remove them from the playing area. If not, the nextperson takes over.
By memorizing where various pieces are located (initially as a result of trial and error) players have a chance at clearing the board.
Of course, the game can be played ‘solitaire’ – or own your own, and the number of pieces should be restricted for younger children.
With older kids, try playing the game under a time limit that will test their concentration!
