Childrens Activity 10: Color ESP

An Indoor Play Activity

You can teach your child to “feel” colors without seeing them – at least, that’s what it will look like to friends.

Materials Required:

  • Crayons
  • Paper bag

Instructions:

YOU can teach your child to “feel” colors without seeing them – at least, that’s what it will look like to friends.  Here’s how.

Your child will claim to be able to distinguish colors without looking at them. To prove it, he or she will ask to have a crayon of a secret color picked and placed in a paper bag.

Your child, without ever having seen the crayon, will be able to identify the color because in feeling the crayon, the intrepid “ESP expert” can get a fingernail into the side of the crayon, remove a tiny sliver of color, think hard, say some magic words, and subtly check his or her nails to identify the shade.

(Younger children may find the temptation to look at their fingernails too great, in which case the child’s friend may be politely asked to close his or her eyes for a moment.)

Admit it. You’ll want to perform the trick yourself before sharing the secret with your child, won’t you?
