Instructions:
What banner does your household fly under? Let your child decide – then make a flag.
You’ll need a piece of cloth (you can cut an old pillow case open), some fabric paint (available from most art supply stores), and a wooden dowel or a cardboard tube from some wrapping paper.
Young children will probably want to dive right in and start painting whatever surface they can, freestyle. Older kids might appreciate first doing a rough sketch on paper, then copying it onto the cloth before doing the coloring in.
When the fabric paint has dried, roll one side around the dowel or cardboard tube.
Secure the material, remove the dowel or tube, and then sew or staple the cloth. (This is a grownup job.)
Make sure you also close off the top, so the flag doesn’t slip down the tube.
Fly the flag at all appropriate family gatherings and events. And when it’s not in use, keep the flag on special display.
